Good bye 2015

Thursday, December 31st, 2015

WOW…I still cannot believe that it is the last day of the year.  The next blog post I write, I will be putting 2016!

I was so happy to have off today 🙂

I was VERY productive this morning.  When we got up Kimm noticed that one of the cats had thrown up on my new blanket!!!!!  I WAS SO MAD!  But that made me get going on laundry!  I did the blanket (which came out great…still SUPER soft) and then the quilt that had been on our bed before the Christmas quilt came on.

While that was happening I whipped up two batches of banana bread with bananas that were so ready to be used.  One batch was with chocolate chips!

Then I wrapped all my Christmas gifts for WI!  Those got sent out today…should be there by Saturday or Monday 🙂

We shoveled for the first time…just the melting ice stuff from the other day…it was not much fun…but necessary.  The only good part was that I got to take a nice hot shower afterwards!

Then our reward…El Forestero for lunch!!!!  We decided to do Mexican this New Year’s instead of our normal pizza….it was SO GOOD.  And now we have leftovers for dinner (we got our usual…veggie quesadillas, guacamole with chips, rice and beans for me, double rice for Kimm).

Then we stopped at Stop and Shop for a few groceries (we wanted bagels for breakfast tomorrow!)…it was crazy busy…good thing we got out of there fast!

Then we headed to the package store for our champagne…a toast for tonight and mimosas for tomorrow!

Now I’m looking forward to a very low key night…a movie, snuggled up on the couch, popcorn and ice cream.  The BEST night in my opinion!

We did get a last minute invitation out but we both agreed, we wanted to stay in.  I’m happy…I’ll be welcoming in the New Year with the one person I want to 🙂

Good bye 2015…it was a good year.  I’m hoping 2016 will be even BETTER!

Made it.

Wow, today is the last day before the last day of the year….WHERE did 2015 go??

Well, I made it through my three days on.  I was with my co-supervisor last night and it was a good thing we were both on…even though initially it was not very busy, the night ended with a code and things got crazy then.  Thankfully the man made it (and I’m crossing my fingers that he continued to stay alive throughout the day).  Last night was the first time I’ve done chest compressions in a long time.

Needless to say, I was exhausted when the night was over and the drive home was tough…I was so sleepy.  I quickly told Kimm about my night and then headed up to bed.

And now I have off tonight!!!!  We’re planning on watching a cheesy Hallmark Christmas movie.  My plan is to take a nice hot shower and then settle in under my new blanket! (with Chex Mix and egg nog close by!)

White stuff.

Well, winter is here!

When I got out of work this morning I was reminded of it immediately 🙂

So we got a mix of freezing rain and some snow, which now means mostly packed, icy snow.

It took me a LONG time to get my car ready to drive this morning (about 20 minutes!).  And then even on the drive home, which was slow going, the back window filled back up with ice.  FRUSTRATING.

I was just SO glad to make it home safe.

I’ll have to give myself a little extra time tonight to get to work since our streets were not plowed (I’m assuming the main roads will be pretty good).

Thankfully I’ll have off the next two days and the weather is supposed to get up to 40 degrees so maybe we’ll be able to shovel this mess at that point!

Not much else for news….the hospital was BUSY.  Oh yeah, and the psych floor flooded last night on 3p-11p!  (a patient bashed in the sprinkler head and water GUSHED out…I guess they had about 3 inches of standing water and the fire department was called and it was a MESS).  But by the time I got up there…you would never have even known that anything had happened.

Dinner was tacos…yummy!  Now I’m about to hop in the shower and then we’re going to watch Frosty 🙂

Only one more night on!

Tummy trouble…

Monday, December 28th, 2015

Well my first night back at work was interesting…

I’m not sure why, but my stomach was not great.  Just not feeling quite right and there were several trips to the bathroom!  Maybe the rich holiday leftovers or the Christmas candy???

Anyways, besides that the night was not that bad…it was busy…the lull of the holidays is over!  But that made the night go by fast for me which was good because I was tired and I had tummy issues.

So sleep was very welcome this morning and sleep well I did.

When I got up we headed out on our walk.  And boy was is CHILLY!  I should have wrapped my scarf around my neck!

Dinner was the remaining leftovers…so hopefully it was not that causing the stomach problems.

The rest of the night is like a repeat from every other night…languages, shower, a show and a nap!  (we are watching The Grinch tonight since I fell asleep for it on Christmas Eve…)

We’re expected to get a wintry mix tonight into tomorrow so I’m crossing my fingers it won’t be too bad on the commute home.

Getting ready for winter…

Sunday, December 27th, 2015

Well, we’re still dealing with warmer temps and sprinkles, BUT we are expected to get a wintry mix this next week (of course when I will be working!).

In anticipation, we put up the reflectors and repaired the fence (the good ol’ zip tie method!!)  We actually did pretty good…the fence is the straightest and most sturdy it’s been in quite a while.

As for the rest of the day…it was mostly relaxing because tonight I’m back to the grind.

I watched the rest of Survivor — the leak I heard about was correct…Jeremy won.  It was a good season… I already can’t wait for the next one…FEBRUARY (Brains vs. Brawns vs. Beauty).

I wrote down my weekends on and holidays on/off in my new planner — always exciting 🙂

We ate some leftovers from Christmas Day and had Christmas candy for dessert.  I think I’ve gained five pounds over the last few days!!  Good thing now I’m going to be getting back to normal.

I’m looking forward to a nice hot shower, some Chex Mix and eggnog and a watching of Santa Claus is Coming to Town before work!

Our Christmas…

Saturday, December 26th, 2015

Merry, merry day after Christmas!

Today is the day that Kimm and I celebrate OUR Christmas together 🙂

It was truly a wonderful day…

…it started out the way all wonderful days do…by sleeping in! (I have been feeling so rushed that this felt amazing)

…then the coffee got brewing and we opened stockings and gifts while drinking away (it was SO MUCH FUN!!!  — my favorites — my new yearly calendar, my new Alex and Ani bracelet — lotus petals design, a super soft blanket for snuggling with down on the couch, Santa Clause 3 dvd, a knitting informational book…I think Kimm’s favorites were her cross body bag, her new Canadiens hats, her bike journal, and the framed print of the lab with the beer!)

…then it was time for breakfast (we were hungry!) — bagels with cream cheese (which I ate while watching an episode of Survivor…I’m almost done!)

…a hot shower followed by a brisk walk with Izzy (it was perfect out…not too cold, not too warm, the air felt so good!)

…dinner was appetizers (mozz sticks, fries, pizza rolls, mac and cheese bites) while watching a Christmas movie…it was great although I ate way too much!

…more resting and relaxing followed 🙂

…we finished the night off with another Christmas movie while eating Chex Mix and Christmas candy 🙂

…the best part was that I didn’t have to go back to work 🙂 🙂

Merry Christmas!

Friday, December 25th, 2015

Merry, merry Christmas to everyone 🙂

I made it through my FOURTH night on!  It was a quiet night at the hospital…low census, no codes, no CERT calls, minimal admissions.  I basically did my rounds delivering my candy, then continued doing rounds, just visiting and listening to everyone’s holiday plans.  Even though it was fun, I WAS glad to head home and start my holiday celebrations!

First up, a call to my parents to wish them a Merry Christmas!!  We had a nice chat…wish I could be there with them.  But working in a hospital makes that practically impossible.  But I was super happy to hear their voices 🙂

Then I headed up to bed to get in my quick nap!

I was up by 2p, in the shower, and Skyping with my family (parents, brother and sister-in-law) by 2:45!  I LOVE being able to SEE them when we talk…even though I’m always very self-conscious about how I look 🙂

After a really good conversation (during which Kimm was sleeping!) we were ready to head over to Kimm’s parent’s house.  We loaded up the car and we were out the door by 4 pm!

The rest of the night was a blur…

…a very good Christmas dinner (mashed potatoes, corn, stuffing, peas, carrots, creamed onions, broccoli casserole, cranberry sauce, rolls)  — I was STUFFED when I got done

…napping on the couch while listening to a Hallmark Christmas movie (Kimm’s mom, Kimm and her brother helped with the dishes)

…opening stockings and gifts (everyone was very generous) — some of my favorites included — Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1 (dvd), knitting needles, the new Gretchen Rubin book about habits, colored pencils, knitted socks for me that Kimm’s mom made me!

…dessert (late — at 11:30 pm!) — apple pie!

We were home by 12:30 am…and SO ready for bed!

It’s Christmas Eve…

Thursday, December 24th, 2015

…and I’m running around still trying to get stuff done!!!

Actually I think it is all done.

I got up early and Kimm and I got the food prepared for tomorrow (buttered peas, brown sugar and butter glazed carrots, cranberry sauce).

Then we prepared the Christmas candy plates for work –THAT’S what took a while.  Whew…but it’s done!

Then I did up the dishes (more than I anticipated because of emptying so many of the candy containers).

Now I’m doing my languages, calling for take out, hopping in the shower.  Kimm’s brother will be here in 1/2 hour and we’re going to watch some Christmas movies…it’s our tradition.

Then I work my LAST night and when I leave work in the morning it will be CHRISTMAS!!!!!

Merry Christmas Eve to all my loved ones…wish I could be near.

Wrapping Part II — Done!

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2015

RAIN, RAIN, and more RAIN!!

I got up and Kimm was wrapping so I decided to get right to wrapping too! Less than 1 hour later…DONE!

Then dinner which was so good because I was so hungry!! (“chicken parm” with spaghetti, corn and garlic bread…Christmas candy for dessert!)

A quick nap and then I was up to mix up another batch of Chex Mix which is currently filling the house with a wonderful fragrance!

I’m going to do my French/German/Spanish and then shower time for me.  I’m going to get a small nap in tonight I think 🙂

Only 2 days til Christmas!!!!

Wrapping Part I — Done

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2015

My first day of work is done.  It actually wasn’t too bad.  Census is pretty low and there were no major issues.  Only three left before Christmas!

It was difficult to sleep today.  Warm and rainy.  So I was up by 3 pm.  I did my French/Spanish/German and then made dinner (cheeseburg salad!).

After dinner I made the Chex Mix and was able to finish wrapping all of Kimm’s stuff!  So now tomorrow I will probably help with the wrapping of whatever she has left for her parents, including the stocking stuff.  And maybe make another batch of Chex Mix (since we will be giving some to her parents).

I also had the chance to talk with my parents tonight 🙂  I was glad since it’s been quite a while.  It was nice!

I can’t believe it is already time to go into work…the days just fly by lately!!!
