3 of 3 done…my one night off.

Thursday, June 30, 2016

I made it through my first stretch of days on!  And now for ONE night off.

We got pizza out ūüôā

And then I watched the first episode of Orange is the New Black…I like it so far.

Tomorrow is going to be busy…errands and our finance meeting (which will be epic since we only had ONE this entire month).

But for now, I’m just enjoying NOT going to work.

2 of 3 … done. LONG day.

Wednesday, June 29, 2016

The actual night of work was not too bad, just a few incidents, but nothing crazy. ¬†However, it was also our annual mandatory ACE day so I did that after work…almost an extra two hours. ¬†So by the time I left, about 10:30 am, I was EXHAUSTED.

I came home, ate a rhubarb muffin that I made last night (BTW…LOVED them…will have to post the recipe), and then climbed into bed. ¬†However, for being as tired as I was, I STILL slept just so-so. ¬†Even with the AC on. ¬†My day time sleep is just not great anymore.

Up at 5 pm and it was hot and humid. ¬†Hate that kind of weather. ¬†Kimm told me that our squash and zucchini plants now have the powdery mildew — see it only took a few days of that humid weather to affect them. Sigh.

Dinner was homemade pizza…tasted so good. ¬†I’ve just showered and that felt amazing.

Now I’m going to try to start a new knitting project…may even attempt my OWN design!

Only one more night on before a night off!

1 of 3 … done.

Tuesday, June 28, 2016

My first night on of three is done!!

It actually wasn’t bad at all for me, but the ED was insanely busy…lots of admissions…so many that the hospitalist was done admitting by the time I came in at 11 pm…by morning time there were 11 people waiting to be admitted. ¬†I actually had to call my boss to see if he wanted me to do anything since all unit managers were going to be at the day long conference. ¬†Turns out one of the managers stayed back with her clinical coordinator to help manage the flow of things.

I was happy to head home as I was tired.  My lack of nap the night before was hitting me.  I was READY for bed.

Yet, I slept so-so. ¬†Probably because I did not put the AC on. ¬†What was I thinking? ¬†It felt pretty cool initially, but then it just got hotter and hotter. ¬†And I guess I was restless, but didn’t think to get up and turn it on!

Dinner was veggie burger and fries!

After dinner I made some rhubarb muffins with some of our rhubarb!!!!!! ¬†Our first recipe with our OWN rhubarb. ¬†I’ll see if it needs adjusting when I take a taste tonight.

Time for a brief nap and then House of Cards. ¬†Hope day two is just as “non-exciting.”

The Start.

Monday, June 27, 2016

Today starts the beginning of my longer stretch of work…three on, one off, four on.

My day was so-so…I hate that I just kept thinking about having to go in to work. ¬†Ugh.

I finished two baby blankets!

I swept the downstairs and washed the animal dishes.

I made lunch and dinner and did dishes three times.

I watched Tangled (cute!)

Kimm did three loads of laundry…whoa mama. ¬†Speaking of laundry…we ordered a new washer today. ¬†The old one kept leaving rust stains on our clothes…we told Kimm’s mom about it and she said that’s how her old washer started going. ¬† Figured it was better to get one now before even more clothes are ruined. ¬†We got one for a total of $500 (with tax and a five year protection plan — will be delivered 7/7).

I’m about to take a shower and try to nap.

Here’s hoping for a good first day back.

June Drag Brunch.

Sunday, June 26, 2016

Tired, tired, tired this morning after being out so late. ¬†I’m just not as young as I once was ūüôā

We were out of the house by 11:00 am to head up to Holyoke for Drag Brunch.  It was a warm day.  Everyone was pretty warm at the restaurant but of course I was okay (sometimes it is okay to not get as warm as most people).

The food was actually GOOD for a change — mac and cheese that was SO creamy, an egg dish with cheese that tasted like an omelet, the normal potatoes — but they had ketchup on the table so that made ALL the difference! ¬†I also had a muffin, a brownie and an oatmeal cookie — carb loading at its best!

The show was really good too…but I have to say I didn’t care for our seats very much…we were kind of in the corner so it was difficult to see a lot of the numbers (except from the head up!) ¬†That’s why I prefer the night drag shows…the performers are easier to see.

But all in all, it was good entertainment!

Back at home we just wanted to relax. ¬†We got pizza out and then just vegged. ¬†I was already thinking that this was my LAST full day off before my long stretch on…boo!

The Jill and Jill.

Saturday, June 25, 2016

I could get used to working just one night! ¬†And it was a pretty easy night too…low census and not really any major issues to deal with.

Home and to bed and when I got up, time to get ready for our friends’ Jill and Jill.

It was a fun night!

The food was okay (pasta, salad and rolls — the rolls were the best part…there were meatballs and chicken as well).

Free beer (but I don’t like that) so I had Twisted Tea — Kimm had her Bud Light Lime.

The drag show was good…and all the tip money was donated to the lovely couple.

The prizes were nice…but we didn’t even win one!!! ¬†(and there were 31 baskets!)

After the raffle drawings we danced and talked.  It felt good to let loose for a bit.

We left by about midnight. ¬†I wonder how much money they raised…I always wonder with these things…just because they have to pay out for so much to have the event (although I did hear that the food was provided for free by a friend, the drag performers donated their time, the baskets were all donated…but I’m not sure about renting the place, the DJ, the beer???)

Bed is going to feel SO good.

And MORE weeding (and planting)!

Friday, June 24, 2016

I find it hard to believe that my three days off are done ūüė¶

They ALWAYS go by so fast!!

Today was full of fun and work.

We headed out to Calabrese’s to get some flowers to plant in our buckets in the front of the house…we lucked out with geraniums (six different colors…three per bucket…only $3 each!!!!). ¬†We also got some potting soil there.

Then we headed up to Mrs. Murphy’s donuts to get breakfast…donuts and iced coffees…yumm! ¬† After eating, we headed outside to plant the buckets. ¬†They looked SO good when we were done. ¬†We also put up some decorative pieces as well. ¬†But of course after doing all that, we looked at the side of the house, where the fern used to be and saw how bare it looked.

So we decided to head out and see what we could find. ¬†We went to Cecchi’s and found a bunch of coleuses and pots…we made a coleus garden! ¬†While Kimm planted those, I weeded some more…just to keep busy and to make the front look nicer. ¬†When we were done we had a weeded walkway and a beautiful side area.

I can’t believe that we FINALLY got stuff for the front and side of the house…that has been on my “to do” list FOREVER. ¬†Now the only thing we need to do is get the stones to put in between the pots and also to plant the hydrangeas.

The outside work is never done it seems.

Plus we have a lot of watering to do since it’s been so hot with no rain. ¬†It’s like a sauna!

I’m back to work tonight…but only for ONE night!! ¬†The real tough stretch is coming up next week. ¬†But I’m not going to think about that for right now.

Next up… a well deserved nap before work…

MORE weeding.

Thursday, June 23, 2016

I am SO sore right now.

My shoulders, my hamstrings, my calves, my thighs…weeding is HARD work.

Today I weeded the front of the house and let me say, it was not much fun.  The only good thing was seeing the progress after I was done.  Took me over two hours.

While I did that, Kimm went to Rocky’s and then attacked this huge gnarly out of control bush in the middle of the yard that we are taking down. ¬†It will take a long time to get it all down.

I was so DONE when I was done.  The shower was great.  Eating was great (leftover El Forestero).  Resting afterward was great.

More knitting, more reading, more Candy Crush.

Taco salad for dinner…yumm!

And now we are going to be watching a movie with poppy corn!!!!

(tomorrow we plant stuff all around…it will be another busy and sore day I’m sure…but I can’t WAIT to see the end result)

Happy birthday Mom!!

Wednesday, June 22, 2016

My mom turned 72 years old today!!

Happy, happy birthday Mom!!!!

I wish I was able to be with my mom on her birthday…she and my dad were going out to a movie (Me Before You…which coincidentally is the book I am reading right now!).

Instead of going to a movie with my mom and then baking her a cake…I did some weeding. ¬†DEFINITELY not as much fun!

Weeds…they really do know how to grow and take over everything. ¬†I weeded the entire side of the house (and took out a bush thing and the overgrown fern) while Kimm mowed. ¬†Getting those two plants out took some SERIOUS muscle…there were times I was pulling at them with ALL of my body weight. ¬†Geesh. ¬†But now that they are out…oh man it looks SO good.

We are planning on planting yellow day lilies against that side of the house.

I still have to weed the front of the house…that will be another day in itself.

After weeding I was FILTHY…covered in dirt. ¬†That shower felt marvelous. ¬†And I was SO achy afterward. ¬†That was quite the workout.

After weeding and showering, we ate out at El Forestero. ¬†It tasted so good. ¬†We haven’t been there since Kimm’s birthday. ¬†They are in their new place now. ¬†The decor is MUCH better. ¬†The food was still good, but the only negative is that they no longer sell the Mexican sodas…we loved them!

Home and then I was able to chat with my mom for a bit before she went to the movies.

And then just relaxing porch time.  It was SO nice.  I read, knitted, watched the final episode of Grace and Frankie, played Candy Crush.  Just vegged.  I loved it.

One more happy birthday to my mom…I hope you have an amazing year!

Perfect Holiday Day…

Tuesday, June 21, 2016

I took a holiday day today so my time would not max out while my co-supervisor is on vacation for the next two weeks.

It was really just the perfect night.

After eating our leftover pizza from the night before we went on a drive. ¬†The weather was perfect…not too hot, a beautiful breeze.

We drove all over Connecticut and even somehow made it into East Hartford…now that was something we were not planning ūüôā

But we were able to get on the highway and head back home!

We ended the night with some ice cream — Raspberry Cheesecake for me, Peanut Butter Chip for Kimm, and plain vanilla soft serve for Izzy ūüôā

It really is just the simple things in life that make me so happy.
