Whew…WHAT a night! That 12 hour shift turned into a 13 hour shift…just because it was CRAZY! We actually were on lock down for a GSW (gun shot wound) to the ED — it was so chaotic because the patient was severely injured…he was only at our hospital for about a half hour — just enough to get stabilized with a chest tube, intubation for airway protection, two units of blood, IV fluids, pain med — then he was taken by ambulance to the larger trauma hospital that is about 10 minutes away…we heard that he coded, but made it into the OR. I hope I will be able to find out some information when I come in again about his status. All I know is that the team work in our ED was fantastic!
Besides that there were a few ICU admissions, one challenging crisis patient, and some staffing issues…I was incredibly glad to leave in the morning and hit the sack.
I was up by 4 pm to hop in the shower and get ready for a night out. We drove out to Simsbury, CT (nice drive, about a half hour) to meet up with Kimm’s best friend who lives further south in CT (we met half-way). There were six of us since she brought her family as well (husband and two girls, ages 6 and 9 — SO ADORABLE!) It was a really nice time.
The restaurant decor was a cool eclectic vibe and the food was pretty good (we got fried pickle chips — a first for us!, a veggie pizza, and some curly fries).
After eating (which they graciously paid for…a nice surprise) — we headed to a local school park where we all played like kids!! (Kimm even fell off one of the pieces of equipment just like a kid!)
All in all, a REALLY nice night out and I’m so glad that she was able to catch up IN PERSON with her friend. Face to face really is the best. I’m hoping that we can try to make it an every other month event, at the very least.
We got home and even had time for an episode of House of Cards before bed.
