Rainy day dinner party…

Wednesday, November 30, 2016

November is going out with the rain…

Breakfast at Cracker Barrel — we tried something new — scrambled eggs, cheesy hashbrown casserole, buttermilk biscuits with butter and jelly, and a grilled blueberry muffin to share…it was SO GOOD.  All enjoyed in front of the roaring fireplace 🙂

And then a jaunt through the charming store…LOVE all that old-fashioned stuff!  Started my Christmas shopping 🙂

Stop and Shop for last minute items for our dinner party tonight.  We are hosting two couples who are always at drag.  Super nice people.  We are having Italian.  One of the people needs to eat gluten-free so that is a challenge.  We bought the Ronzini Gluten-Free pasta and it was actually pretty good!  I was shocked.

Our meal — spaghetti with sauce, romaine lettuce with sliced red onions, green peppers, cucumbers, and grape tomatoes, garlic bread.  It was YUMMY!  Followed by dessert that our guests brought — gluten-free carrot cake — it was seriously some of the best carrot cake I have ever had!!!

The good news is that our dinner party went well…thankfully not too much awkwardness!!!  It’s so hard when you are first hanging out with people!

They left around 9 pm (still raining!!)

Now on the computer for a bit and then up to bed…

Rainy Day get-together…

Tuesday, November 29, 2016

Rain, rain and more rain.  It lasted from the moment we woke up, until the moment we wen to bed!

No walk for Izzy-bear 😦

Breakfast and coffee with reading.

Made vegan gluten-free peanut butter cookies for our get-together with our good friend tonight.   They turned out good!

Lunch and another episode of Gilmore Girls!  Only one more left after this…

Showers and getting ready to go out.

A little after 5pm and we are out the door! (still raining)

Italian food, spiced pear wine, good conversation and lots of laughs 🙂

Love spending time with friends you can just be yourself with!

Gilmore Girls!

Monday, November 2, 2016

Today was finally that nice, relaxing day 🙂

Brisk temps in the morning on the walk — Izzy didn’t mind!

Out for donuts and lattes (ate too many donuts even though they were delicious…and the latte turned out to be a little disappointing at the end when the peanut butter didn’t stay blended and created these very off-putting lumps!)

But…all was not lost…we started watching the Gilmore Girls Netflix original series…we got through Winter and Spring…hopefully Summer and Fall tomorrow.  I can’t wait to see how everything is all tied together…and what the last four words are!

Love sitting in the living room surrounded by the soft light of the trees…

Pretty soon a Christmas movie with popcorn!

Decorating, Day Two

Sunday, November 27, 2016

DONE!!!  It is all DONE!!

We started about 10:30 am and finished about 2 pm.  Whew!  The last bit was a bit stressful…just making sure everything had it’s place.  Plus there was a lot of getting rid of odds and ends that had accumulated in the downstairs area that made it look cluttered.  All of that just took extra time.

But now that it is done…I LOVE it!!  Three trees in the living room, one in the dining room, one on the front porch, two wreaths on the doors, Christmas decorations in every nook and cranny 🙂

And after we were done decorating and lunched…then we cleaned!  Kimm did the toilets and the sweeping…I did the tub and changing the bed sheets and the dusting/sweeping of the bedroom.

Quick showers and then we were off to meet our friends for dinner.

It was SUCH a fun night.  I’m SO sad that this couple is moving to Georgia 😦  They would have been great to hang out with frequently here.

Now it’s time for a cheesy Hallmark Christmas movie snuggled up with the one I love…

Decorating, Day One

Decorating Day One…complete.

And my feet/back can attest to a long, busy day.

I think we started about 11 am.  And finished about 7 pm.

…both trees!  (we LOVE both our trees, but huge shout out to the slim fake tree we have…it fits PERFECTLY where we planned to have it!)

…MOST of the Christmas vignettes around the house on the flat surfaces

To be completed:

…outside wreaths (and one more to hang inside)

…porch tree

…bathroom tree (will have lights this year!)

…miscellaneous odds and ends

Goal — to be completed by 3 pm tomorrow as we are having dinner out with friends and then having them over to the house after.  So we have a lot left to do since we’ll have to get rid of all the “piles” of junk hanging around too!

Crossing our fingers it all gets done in time.

Our reward for tonight — pizza out while watching Christmas with the Kranks!

The tree

Friday, November 25, 2016

Our Christmas tree is bought!!

I LOVE it.

We had to go with a smaller tree this year because of where we had to put it, but honestly it doesn’t FEEL any smaller than our other trees, probably because the area it is in is a little smaller.

And I have the PERFECT view of it from the love seat where I normally sit 🙂

We got the tree today, after lunch at a local fruit and vegetable stand.  I love supporting local 🙂  The tree is a Frasier fir and cost $40.  We also got a REAL wreath this year too!  Only $20!

The best part about a smaller tree was that it was SO MUCH easier to get in the house and set up in the tree stand!

So our annual “day after Thanksgiving getting the tree” is done!

Now tonight we watch our first Christmas movie and enjoy the smell of a real tree…

Thanksgiving Prep

Wednesday, November 23, 2016

Here I am…done with all the Thanksgiving Day meal prep on our end.

As a team, Kimm and I made cranberry sauce, butter and brown sugar carrots, green bean casserole, and buttered peas.  The kitchen smelled wonderful.

I cannot wait to eat tomorrow!

But HOW, HOW, HOW can it be Thanksgiving already????

Third day of work on was pretty good…busy again — IMC had 38 patients…!!!!

Tonight is my last night on!!

I am HOPING (fingers crossed) that a lot of patients got discharged and that it will be a fairly simple night for most everyone working 🙂

The first of our holiday traditions: Chex Mix

Tuesday, November 22, 2016

My second night of work was not bad…again, busy, but not horrible.

I came home and headed straight for bed.  Kimm did some errands today.

When I woke up it was time for making dinner — simple tonight because it was leftover mac and cheese with tator tots.  Yumm.

Then after dinner Kimm and I worked on making Chex Mix — it’s a holiday tradition for us 🙂  There is NOTHING like the taste of homemade Chex Mix.  So much better than store bought.

The entire house smells so good right now.  I can’t wait to eat some tonight.

As soon as it’s out of the oven (probably 5 minutes) then I’m up to do some yoga and then a shower!  Only two more nights and then it is THANKSGIVING!!!

Kaye and Kimm’s Holiday Chex Mix

3 cups corn Chex

3 cups rice Chex

2 cups wheat Chex

1 cup salted peanuts

2 cups Cheezits

1 1/2 cups straight pretzels

6 Tbsp butter

2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 1/2 tsp salt

3/4 tsp garlic salt

1/2 tsp onion powder

To make:

Pre-heat oven to 250 degrees.

Mix all dry ingredients.

Melt butter and add Worcestershire sauce and spices, mix well.

Pour over dry ingredients and mix well.

Pour into oven safe container, bake one hour, stirring well every 15 minutes.

Winter weather is here my friends!

Kimm suggested I wear my winter jacket last night to work and she was right, I needed it!  Especially coming out of work this morning as well.

Sad face…fall is pretty much over!

My first night of work was not too bad…busy, but not crazy, crazy like it sometimes can be.

I slept pretty good.  I had a not-so-nice experience with the scale…Oh well, I guess I have to keep on working.

Dinner was homemade mac and cheese and tator tots.  Haven’t had that meal in forever and it was so good.

Now I’m about to do some yoga and then shower.

Tonight is night 2 of 4…then Thanksgiving!!!
